In the past 10 years our Cape Town based label has released more number one hits and developed more successful artists than any other label in Cape Town. Our strength is a sound that appeals to both the South African youth as well as to a international world music market. Mama Dance ! tracks continue to be licenced by compilations worldwide as well as generating substantial sales in South Africa. The Mama Dance catalogue is now available for sale at www.iTunes.com and various other Digital Download stores.
Hola Cape Town
"Hola Cape Town"(1998) was the first compilation of Kwaito tracks from the surrounding ghettos
and remains a collectors item.
Dantai
Dantai's debut release "Operation Lahlela" (1999) containing the single "Pyjama Jam" caused
shockwaves in the dominant Johannesburg Kwaito scene.
KB
KB's award winning debut album "Beautiful Vibrations"(2002) was the biggest selling album
from Cape Town in a long time. It had three chart topping singles that instantly launched her as
one of the countries top new artists.
Jerusha
Jerusha launched her debut album "Got to have it", a cutting edge Pop and R&B album.
(mkting/dist - Universal SA). Her single "Are you the one" was one of the top 10 most played South
African songs in 2002, with a remix released in various European countries and making it to #3 on
the UK Music week chart breakers Dance charts.
The Goema Captains of Cape Town
2004 saw a collaborative Afribeat/Mama Dance release of "Healing Destination" by Cape Jazz
Super group, The Goema Captains of Cape Town. The album was released in Germany.
Vidima
Our latest release "Sagiya" is by Zimbabwean/South African guitar maistro, Vidima. It's jazzy
African grooves and infectious melodic hooks are already having impact on dance floors and radio
stations around the country.
Blue African Skies
BLUE AFRICAN SKIES
This Afro Pop group pioneers a unique style that elegantly fuses traditional African sounds with
cutting edge urban pop culture. Their debut album Hlabelela was released by Universal Music in
August 2006.
